Running Is No Longer My Enemy

I had an epiphany last night!

I got home later then usual because I had a doctor’s appointment after work, and I was already starting to talk myself out of going running. It was already dark, and by the time I got home and changed and streched, it would be 8pm. That’s WAY too late to go running I told myself!

But then I got home. And sat down on the couch, and realized I felt yucky and tired. And then something amazing happened…my motivation kicked into high gear, and I somehow convinced myself that the solution to making myself feel less tired and yucky was to go running! And I was right! I felt amazing afterwards!

So, as I stated before, I am re-starting my Couch to 5K training this week, so technically this was Week 1 Day 1. Here is the run I did:

  • 5 min. warm-up
  • 3 sets of the following intervals:
  • Run 30 sec.
  • Walk 45 sec.
  • Run 45 sec.
  • Walk 60 sec.
  • Run 60 sec.
  • Walk 90 sec.
  • 5 min. cool-down

The whole workout is 26 min and 30 secs long. I ran/walked a total of 2.03 miles. So, I’ll run again on Thurday, and it’s the same workout and thus the same amount of time. So, I’m going to try and run a bit further next time. I hope I can!!

Honestly, if I hadn’t found this program, I never would have thought of doing intervals like this to ease myself into running. And I would have tried to do too much too fast and then quit because it was too hard. But this wasn’t too hard. I mean, it wasn’t easy. I’m REALLY out of shape. But it wasn’t so hard that I’m discouraged. In fact, it was the perfect amount of hard to keep me motivated and make me feel like I accomplished something!
